A statutory declaration is a written solemn declaration used to assert the truth of any fact or facts or of any account in writing. Unlike affidavits, which are generally used for court proceedings, statutory declarations have a more general application. A statutory declaration has the same legal effect as evidence given under oath.
The Notary Public can administer the solemn declaration to the person making the declaration and sign the statutory declaration.
